just in case you wanted to know…

March 5, 2009

On average, people can hold their breath for about one minute. The world record is 15 minutes 2 seconds, by Tom Sietas..

On average, you breathe 23,000 times a day.

Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine, suggested that a woman could enlarge her bust line by singing loudly and often.

A person remains conscious for eight seconds after being decapitated.

Our eyes are always the same size from birth.

We actually do not see with our eyes – we see with our brains. The eyes basically are the cameras of the brain. One-quarter of the brain is used to control the eyes.

Eskimos use refrigerators to keep food from freezing.

The people killed most often during bank robberies are the robbers.

The opposite sides of a dice cube always add up to seven.

About 27% of food in developed countries are wasted each year. It’s simply thrown away.

Earth is the densest planet in the solar system and the only one not named after a god.

Where’s the link where you give somebody credit for all these random facts.
….. or do you have all that stored in your brain?

I just signed mama up for singing lessons – I told her the louder she sings the better for her lungs – I wish I had known this 43 years ago! I would have got her the singing lessons for a wedding gift. heh heh!

“A person remains conscious for eight seconds after being decapitated.”

How on earth do they (whoever ‘they’ are) know that?

Would be kind of weird…looking back on your headless body for 8 seconds before the lights go out.

    PAPA!!!!!!!

  12. March 5, 2009 5:41 pm

the eyes size thing freaks me out a bit…I know a guy whose eyes are so huge, I don’t think there’s ever been a baby’s face that could hold them. Clearly, I’m wrong…

I wondered the same thing as James, there.

I have to agree with the random fact, and disagree with brunettekoala – the opposite sides of a die are 1 and 6, 2 and 5, and 3 and 4. If they were 6, the side with ‘6’ would have to be opposite a blank face.

  14. March 5, 2009 8:20 pm

annie – i am officially laughing like crazy over this dice thing. i STILL didnt check it.

    my head hurts.

Sorry BK, Tam… opposite a six on a dice is a one – the five a two, and the three a four…. all of which add up to …?

    Seven – perfect! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    You know me and numbers

( and i did NOT get a die to check my facts on this first – but anyone else can if they don’t trust me – or simple logic.)

Annie – i have said it before and i’ll say it again…

we are so alike in some ways ๐Ÿ™‚

Blove – haha. I didn’t consult a die also. I was rather well convinced without proof. ๐Ÿ™‚ Logical.

  20. March 5, 2009 9:02 pm

Annie -i love it! ๐Ÿ™‚ it’s so nice not to feel SO ‘unique’. ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh – i got distracted from my original thought on Tam’s informative trivia…

the LAST fact makes some things so much clearer to me.

Earth is definitely the ‘home’ of the dense!

Just heard a woman in the US called the emergency number – 911 in your country – not once, not twice, but THRICE to report that the fast food joint she ordered her chicken nuggets from had taken her money and then found out they had run out of nuggets!

The girl behind the counter was refusing to offer a refund, presumably insisting the woman buy something else of equal value.

Clearly – a three call ’emergency’!!!???

    Dense. ๐Ÿ™„

“Earth is definitely the โ€˜homeโ€™ of the dense!”

this was THE SINGLE reason why i decided to add this little tid bit to my post. i was SO hoping someone would pick up on that.

and of course, you, my love…did.

    yay!

  22. March 5, 2009 10:00 pm

    craziness.

  23. March 6, 2009 1:12 am

I was wrong, it is seven. I was still thinking about the dice thing last night when I went to sleep.

    I’m silly…! Sorry Tam!

A person remains conscious for eight seconds after being decapitated.

Our eyes are always the same size from birth.

Wow these were all really fun to read! But these two above really stood out to me. I wish you could have seen my face when I read them.

    With the first one:
My head turned to the right don’t know why and then I imagined the head still conscious, but then I thought, maybe it’s the other half of the body that is still conscious? Then, I thought this is sick! I don’t want to think of this anymore. ha! So I went on and read the next one…

My eyes went really wide after reading this. And for some reason my neighbor’s child came to mind. His eyes are huge! I wonder if that means he’ll be a really tall man when he’s older? And then I thought about babies in general. Overall I haven’t ever thought baby’s eyes were hugly ugly, so I think that’s odd that our head grows around these eyes to form a perfect beautiful being in all the right dimensions!?!?! Hmmm…weird.

  25. March 6, 2009 11:04 am

8 seconds after decapitation…cool…just enough time for me to say “Thanks a lot you idiot for chopping my head off” or “Kind of creepy me talking to your right now eh?”

  26. March 6, 2009 3:08 pm

Demara – I thought the same thing on the head decapitation! When you say ‘conscious’ I figure ‘alive’ … but which part? or both? And if you’re ‘conscious’ for 8 seconds … what happens in those 8 seconds? And how did anyone ever figure that out? “Um, we’d like you to be a part of an experiment for science.” “Sure, what are studying?” “How long the brain can survive on it’s own. We’re going to need to decapitate you …”

    !!!

  27. March 6, 2009 3:35 pm

    hahaha!

thing is…i actually know some people who would volunteer for that. just not thinking, ya know. kinda like their head is already detached.

“A person remains conscious for eight seconds after being decapitated.”

which part?!?! and how do they know?!?!?!

    i’m confused.
