thursday swap

March 19, 2009

ProBlogger inspired the following idea and i thought i’d tweak it just a bit to fit in a little better with how we roll here at inProgress.

i’d like to see more guest posters around these parts. i visit your blogs… i may not always comment (mostly cuz of time constraints and i dont like rushin a reply) but i do believe we have some great writers out there. we also have an invaluable amount of wisdom and wit too. so why not share it more, right?

so, heres the thing…

lets start swapping posts.

once a week i’d like to trade blogs with one person. well, just a post, really. you (the person picked for that week) and i post on each others blog. we’ll let our readers know where we’ll be that day. they might come over and peruse a bit and may find they have a lot in common with you. maybe a ministry will arise. maybe a long distant friendship will grow. who knows! but i think it could be fun!

so if youre interested, or confused, let me know in the comments below.

does anyone know of a good source that i can use to pick a random blogger to post with?

I would love for you to post for me again!!!

    • March 19, 2009 8:17 am

so would i! definitely. but that means you have to post here the same day πŸ™‚

  2. March 19, 2009 7:45 am

I’m in for a mixin’ it up. If you’ll have me.

    • March 19, 2009 8:20 am

if i’ll have you? of course! theres nothing id enjoy more than to have you grace this space, friend!

  3. March 19, 2009 8:02 am

    what a fun idee-ur.

    • March 19, 2009 8:21 am

i wanta hear you sing your comment in an opera like fashion πŸ˜€

  4. March 19, 2009 8:17 am

πŸ˜† great minds think alike… I was gonna ask you if you’d mind being a regular contributor on my other blog… but I would love to return the favour on this one, too!

    • March 19, 2009 8:22 am

thank you for that thought bajan….wow! but i have tried being a regular contributor on other blogs and i am just no good at it. but i would LOVE to swap with you every once in awhile…yes? πŸ˜‰

      • March 19, 2009 8:42 am

That can work πŸ™‚ “regular” doesn’t mean like ‘every week’ … for me it just means whenever you feel you have something to say you’d have the opportunity to say it … I just want content and different ‘voices’ on it.

So that even I can be excited about logging in and not knowing what I’d find … πŸ˜€

Anyway, we can talk about it. πŸ™‚

  5. March 19, 2009 8:28 am

I’ve got the same problem…cannot seem to be regular (as in every week) but occasionally may work well.
    Can I join?
Looks like–from the comments–that there is the possibility of others also doing a swap and this whole idea going viral!!

    fun idea! πŸ™‚

  7. March 19, 2009 10:12 am

good idea. i’d like you to post for me…not sure i’d have much to offer your readers though!

  8. March 19, 2009 10:30 am

I’d love to swap posts. Only if you wear shades while you’re doing it, though.

  9. March 19, 2009 10:42 am

If you are looking for a way to randomly pick someone you could use a random number generator.

  10. March 19, 2009 12:05 pm

    bring it.

  11. March 19, 2009 12:16 pm

So far it’s been a jinx when you post or link to my blog.

The first time my host had a power outage and it took them 6 hours to come back on line. the second time Intense Debate had an outage.

    Third time’s a charm??

    • March 19, 2009 12:19 pm

dang. im sorry! i think we should totally go for a third time tho. why not! lets just bust the world wide web and go down in history πŸ˜€

      • March 19, 2009 4:11 pm

I guess I should write on your blog then

        • March 19, 2009 4:17 pm

yes. thats the point. i write on yours, you write on mine for one day.

          cha-ching πŸ˜‰

[i dont know why i just cha-chinged. ive just always wanted to say that.]

          • March 20, 2009 7:28 am

make the call and I shall craft a literary masterpiece

  12. March 19, 2009 12:16 pm

    Tam,
I love the idea …. count me in anytime!
    Fred

  13. March 19, 2009 12:51 pm

Well, I think it is an interesting idea.

      March 19, 2009 1:09 pm

O, by the way, it was one of most popular so far…

I liked because my girlfriend came over. πŸ™‚

  15. March 19, 2009 1:00 pm

Wow, sounds like a great idea! um … so how much warning would we have of the ‘swap day,’ and should there be a theme, or just ‘whatever comes into your head.’ I’m feeling a slight pressure to perform (not so good at that) but … details would probably ease my mind. Because the idea sounds wonderful. πŸ˜€

  16. March 19, 2009 1:01 pm

I think that’s a great idea. I think, like Mandy said, you could use a random number generator. Or just pull names out of a hat. πŸ™‚

  17. March 19, 2009 1:04 pm

    Coolness πŸ™‚

But should I be worried re Vince & Intense Debate????

  18. March 19, 2009 1:08 pm

    [i just love you.]

  19. March 19, 2009 1:13 pm

I like the idea. I will need a few days advance warning to think of something really interesting to say, unlike most of what I post in my own blog. πŸ™‚

  20. March 19, 2009 1:13 pm

    I think I’m too old for this – 😯

  21. March 19, 2009 2:14 pm

fo shizzle, my nizzle! i’m in!

    • March 19, 2009 2:22 pm

im not going anywhere near your nizzle, woman!

  22. March 19, 2009 2:27 pm

i’ll announce on mondays (or over the weekend-not sure) who i’ll be switching blog posts with on the following thursday. that’ll give us 4 days. there will be a few “guidelines” (for lack of better words) like, word count and sticking to respectful topics… things like that.

my plan is, for whose ever blog i get to post at that week, to go to their place, get acquainted with their style, their themes and niches. i wanta stay relevant, but add a little of me, to who they are and what their blog represents.

  23. March 19, 2009 4:10 pm

I was going to e-mail you about doing a series of Guest posts and video interview for Philter48 any way… Lets do dis….

In other words, I would love to have you write at philter. Question is do you want me posting on your blog?

  24. March 19, 2009 4:19 pm

carl – of course i do!!

i think instead of me randomly picking commenters…im just gonna make a thursday post swap schedule for everyone who wants to join in.

    hope that works for everyone??

  25. March 19, 2009 6:02 pm

Tam, I would love to trade blogs for a day! I don’t know if a lot of my readers come here, so it would be a great way for them to get to know you!

  26. March 19, 2009 8:23 pm

i love the underlying concept, i think like most things in real life however the practicality will get a little ‘lost’.

As far as i can tell you already have the best part of a years worth of guest posting to do and others to post here. From the size of your blogroll it is going to take closer to two years (just at current levels of readership/contributions) for all to share in this concept. And that is just if everyone only guest posts here or you there) Once!

Might i suggest another way? How about we post/link?

You have already written some posts where you recommend reading someone else’s blog post you enjoyed and posted a link to their site (where we can then find ourt MORE about a person than a single posting). Just ‘extend’ that idea a little and arrange for one person at another blog to link their post to yours and yours to theirs. That way we retain our blog’s personality and Authenticity while giving our readers the chance to visit a new blog and learn more about them?

Any of us can do it on a one-to one level and we don’t need to stick to ‘one’ schedule for everyone?

It would be close to your idea if we find someone’s post that is somehow ‘related’ to the post we are writing at the time and we don’t just post a ‘you must read this blog’ type post. Another advantage is that we would not have to ‘edit’ what the other person is writing on our blog and are not constrained to be something someone else agrees with as we still post to our own blog – good?

The ‘catch’ here though is in the ‘synchronicity’ of posts – we can’t find a post that someone has not yet written to link to it and they would not have linked to ours if they already wrote on the subject we are currently writing on to link to them?

How about if we ‘pool’ our blognames who are interested and each of us in our own time picks people to ‘pair’ with by posting simultaneously on our own blogs on the one ‘topic’ but with our own perspectives and link to the second post?

    Just some thoughts πŸ™‚

    <B

    How does that sound?

  27. March 19, 2009 8:26 pm

I nominate your blog as the place for the ‘pool’ btw…

POOL PARTY AT TAM”S PLACE!!! πŸ˜‰

    <B

    • March 19, 2009 8:35 pm

haha! id like to nominate Papa as our resident pool boy then πŸ˜€

if youd like to jump in an offer a post swap with any of these kind people then go right ahead. im just gonna go with the flow here and see how it works. it may evolve into something else as it goes along. it may bomb…but the intent here is to truly get to know each other more and get introduced to other bloggers. if it takes a year, thats ok. i dont think any of us are goin anywhere πŸ˜‰ i do want to keep it uncomplicated tho.

im actually posting something else tomorrow that will also help us to discover more of these blogs that are right under our noses.

  28. March 19, 2009 8:30 pm

We could put potential post ideas to write on up at the same time! πŸ˜‰

    <B

  29. March 19, 2009 8:32 pm

Hey! Only one comment away from a comment take-over…. Mission accomplished! πŸ™‚

    <B

  30. March 19, 2009 10:14 pm

    I’m totally up for it!

    • March 19, 2009 10:16 pm

yay!!! thank you. im excited to do this. may take awhile to get around to everyone…but hopefully it can become something that is just normal and expected and looked forward to. we’ll see…

    • March 19, 2009 10:17 pm

and i love your avatar πŸ™‚

  31. March 19, 2009 11:03 pm

I would love for you to be a guest speaker on Yokoso!!

I’m not sure what I would post on your blog though.

So maybe we would have a question we’d answer.
    What do you think?

I can’t wait to receive your text in my email…

  32. March 21, 2009 12:27 am

    yup.

  33. March 21, 2009 3:41 pm

    sho’ nuff.

  34. March 24, 2009 1:08 pm

I called ‘shotgun’ on trading posts…so that basically means in playground rules that I get to go first πŸ˜‰

    • March 24, 2009 1:49 pm

shotgun? my kids dont even call shotgun.

      k. youre next week!
