Chaos Theory

June 1, 2009

as most of you know, my kids are in a band. kota plays drums, kass is the singer and accoustic player and writer. their best friends josh, aaron and travis are on guitars – 2 electrics and a bass.

their band name is Chaos Theory but they are wanting to change it.

this is where you come in, my ultra creative friends ๐Ÿ˜‰ , what do you think would be a good band name for them?

their style is pop rock. kind of a cross between addison road and paramore.

they write all their own music. you’ll have to suffer thru an ad before you hear them. sorry. anyway… they love God, are energetic and crazy fun.

they dont want a “kids” name tho.

ok. so, wutcha got?

    Organized Postulation

    • June 1, 2009 5:51 pm

When first reading this, I thought you said Organized Prostitution. Yikes…..

  2. June 1, 2009 10:10 am

fun with locations: ‘medford’. not liking that. are there any cool street names or locations near you?

fun with names: if we take the last letter of each of their first names…. we get things like this: insha. shain. hains.

ok never mind I’ve got nothin’.

    • June 1, 2009 1:16 pm

or…the first letters of each of their names would be…

      kk-jat

  3. June 1, 2009 10:15 am

I once wanted to name a band Lunar Riot. Never got the chance.

Actually I did…virtually…there was a game online many years back called the rockstar game I think. It was a blast. One of my virtual bands was named Lunar Riot…

But none in the real world. I offer it freely. For 10% royalties. Just kidding.

    But seriously.

  4. June 1, 2009 10:17 am

Looks like it would have been a cool name…just did a myspace check. The Luna Riot exists.

    Oh well.

  5. June 1, 2009 10:17 am

I think “Chaos Theory” is a great name… Why change it?

Tell ’em, whatever they do, don’t put numbers in their name…

    Hmmmm… Here are a few:
    Blue
    Spin
    Jump

    Drew says:
    Screaming Mimi’s
    The Jimmies
    Locke
    Lock Mess
    Block & Tackle

    Good luck with that, guys.

    • June 1, 2009 11:06 am

      why no numbers? (just curious…)

    • June 1, 2009 11:53 am

so “4 guys and a chick” wont work?

    • June 1, 2009 7:48 pm

Blue were a British Boy Band – think Backstreet Boys.

CT don’t want to be called Blue…

  6. June 1, 2009 10:32 am

What’s wrong with ‘Chaos Theory’? I think that’s a great name for a band.

  7. June 1, 2009 11:00 am

I like Chaos Theory, but here are a few names my hubby has been wanting to use for years:

Grunge Kitties (for a girl band tho)
Pork Bucket (not really sure why)
Why not use Kassota? ha ha… the other guys might feel left out tho.

    Good luck.

  8. June 1, 2009 11:55 am

so travis, in the band, checked into it and there are alot of “chaos theories” out there. i guess they all talked and decided to change their name then. i think its a good, catchy name too. apparently…several other bands do as well ๐Ÿ˜•

  9. June 1, 2009 11:57 am

Chaos Theory is a great name. I wouldn’t change it. But then this is coming from a guy who had a band called “Suburban Lunchmeat”

  10. June 1, 2009 12:05 pm

How ’bout “Mandy and the Love Monkeys”

  11. June 1, 2009 12:17 pm

    Seconds ’til Broadway

Haha… never, EVER thought of this for a band name before but for some reason it popped in my head while i was reading.

Not a big fan of Chaos Theory though so I think it’s good their changing it up.

  12. June 1, 2009 12:20 pm

I’ve got it. How about… U2? Oh, wait, Mandy said no numbers. Okay, I’ll have to think a little harder about this and come back.

  13. June 1, 2009 12:21 pm

    Lets see, “Mama’s and the Papa’s” No, thats been used;

I ain’t good at this! “Generation Chaos” ??

    • June 1, 2009 12:24 pm

      mamas and the papas!!!

      i love it papa!

      ๐Ÿ˜‰

  14. June 1, 2009 12:24 pm

thought id add a couple things about them to help stimulate the creativity…

they dont want a kiddy band name.
    their music is pretty mature.
they dont necessarily want a “christian” name either.
    they practice a lot.
    are all best friends.
they pick on kota a lot.
they practice upstairs in the youth room at church.
their first concert was at alba park in medford in august 2008.
they practice at table rock fellowship on north pacific highway.
they fart on each other. seriously.

um. thats all i can think of for now

    ๐Ÿ˜€

    • June 1, 2009 12:25 pm

oh. and theyre pretty passionate about their community and speaking Truth!

      • June 1, 2009 12:51 pm

        Ooooh, ooooh….got the PERFECT name!

        Ready?

        Here it comes…….

        wait for it…….

        wait for it…….

        FARTING AT THE TABLE!

        Oh yeah…..I’m THAT good!

  15. June 1, 2009 12:41 pm

Alece … calling Alece … (the guru of naming)

  16. June 1, 2009 12:49 pm

    A few suggestions from scripture:

    Mephibosheth
    Cities of Refuge
    Burnt Offering
    Hannah’s Prayer
    Joyful Noise
    Breaking Down Walls
    Fertile Ground
    Circumcision

(OK…..just kidding about that last one…..I’ve already claimed that one for MY band)

    • June 1, 2009 1:11 pm

Oooh … I like Cities of Refuge. That might just be me.

    • Jim2 permalink
      June 1, 2009 2:16 pm

Probably not “Circumcision” though there is a band called “Eighth Day” and the only reference I can come up with does have to do with the not-so-elective-surgery

  17. June 1, 2009 12:52 pm

I’m so glad circumcision was just a joke! Burn Offering is pretty cool. I was going to suggest Narrow Gate, but that might be too mild for them. Still thinking…

  18. June 1, 2009 1:01 pm

i just commented over on brents blog and said this in a sentence and thought it would be a funny band name…

    “lighting candles and calming yorkies”

hahahaha! its making me laugh ๐Ÿ˜†

    • June 1, 2009 5:38 pm

How about calming candles and lighting yorkies???? ๐Ÿ˜†

Idk but for the past few weeks I’ve been thinking that “Intransient” would be a cool band name. Haha

    • June 1, 2009 1:16 pm

      i like that!

Haha thanks! I kinda like the way the word is pronounced. ๐Ÿ™‚

  21. June 1, 2009 1:26 pm

When I was 9 years old, I wanted to start a rock/rap/boyband group called just us. I had a rap too.

    Anyway, a good band name…

Geez, I don’t know. I think the process of naming a band just has to be random. Like, everyone’s chatting and BOOM there it is. When you set out a task to do it, it get’s cheesy… like, my idea, just now, that I seriously thought would be awesome was:

    Calling Shotgun

Yah. See, I think randomness will work.

    • June 1, 2009 1:31 pm

calling shotgun is pretty good, actually!

      • June 1, 2009 1:34 pm

Pretty good? Like my drawings were pretty good in 1st grade.. Pretty good, but not good enough to go on the fridge with my sister’s drawings..

        I see how it is…

Ok I’m just kidding. Thanks for the props… It’s about time everyone rekonizzed. (Recognized)

        Bye.

  22. June 1, 2009 1:27 pm

Could always stick with the ‘In’ Theme..

    Inaband

    Just sayin’.. haha.

  23. June 1, 2009 2:03 pm

    Activate

    Its On

    Over the Top

    Your Mamas Nightmare

    Your Daddys dream

hahaha but the one that is killing me right now is… Mandy and the love monkeys..PRAISE365!!

  24. June 1, 2009 2:07 pm

Lost&Found (okay i will give it a rest now)

  25. June 1, 2009 2:22 pm

    In Theory?
sounds kind of passive, but interesting…

okay, so, for some reason this just popped into my head: What if someone put together a band of old ladies and their name was The Polka Dots!? and they played polka, and they were all named Dot!? yep. I’m tired.

How about “Nevaeh’s Progress”…. Nevaeh is “HEAVEN” spelled backwards…and that’s what they are….plus a little bit of YOU in the mix…since it is because of YOU they are here….hahaha…

Too tired to read these comments, but incase someone hasn’t already mentioned it, Linkin Park was originally called Chaos Theory, but as I recall they were forced to change it because there was already a band by that name. Off the top of my head:

The Wolf and the Winter Cold (300 reference)
    Oxygen Fix / Oxygen Habit
    Garden
Day Old Hate (City and Colour song)
Dr. Salvadore (an enemy in Resident Evil 4, though the name is never mentioned)
    Hero Complex
    State of Mind
    Siraxis (quasi-obscure Eluveitie song)
    Fortress
Ex Nihilo (latin phrase, means “out of nothing” or “from nothing”)
    Promised Land
Circle of Nine (obscure DnB song by a now-deceased artist)
Circle of Fate / Fated Circle
Persistence of Memory (famous Salvador Dali painting)
    Arkansas
Potemkin (battleship from a long time ago)
Underdose / The Underdose (InMe song)
    Living Logic

Ehhh that’ll do for now… been a long day. They’re pretty awesome btw, cool sound.

  29. June 1, 2009 4:28 pm

Ummmmm….how about Utvalda, it means chosen ones in Swedish….

    Sorry, it’s in my blood… ๐Ÿ˜†

I actually like the current name it flippin cool! But I do have one: The Rogue Wave “Bring the Mighty Wave of God to the unknown”

Lets get some MP3’s on line and I would love to see you guys live!

  31. June 1, 2009 7:20 pm

I had a fish named “Cat” and another named “Giraffe”. What that has to do w/ the band, who knows…but it’s truth.

[i’m still following you…sounds creepy, but though you’d want the encouragement. Btw…blogging makes stalking the new normal]

    • June 1, 2009 7:29 pm

stalk me any time. id prefer you stalk me at closer range tho.

      just sayin.

      • June 1, 2009 7:41 pm

workin on that one, luv muffin…made a few semi-important calls – my networking skills need some work though

  32. June 1, 2009 7:48 pm

    The Holy Mess

    System of Bedlam

I will have to come up some better ones but it is a start

  33. June 1, 2009 7:52 pm

Totally not what you want, but along the lines of “I always wanted to call a band X”, ever since the ridiculousness of names like Savage Garden, I always thought the next obvious step in that sort of thing would be Vicious Puddle.

    Apparently, I’m wrong.

  34. June 1, 2009 8:23 pm

    KrAShing the KwOTA—
Spelled just like that :-)….sorry, it’s late and my Chaotic Theology was smashed when I read your comment that they don’t want a Christian name :-0.

    • June 1, 2009 8:29 pm

i dont think theyre opposed to it. but they dont want to be categorized as a “christian band”. theyre christians that have a band who write positive music with a good message.

      are you back home yet?

      • June 2, 2009 1:53 am

Getting on a plane in about an hour. We’ll be home around 10pm your time :-).

  35. June 1, 2009 10:20 pm

Hey everyone, this is Travis, I play guitar. Just to clear something up. It is not that we do not want a ‘Christian’ name, or to be labeled as a ‘Christian’ band….is ‘Christian’ really even a genre of music? I don’t think it is, it is a religion, not a type of music.

But with that aside, the whole reason we make music, is to sing praises to our God. If we weren’t praising God, what would be the point in music? Because that is the reason why music was made, so that God could be worshiped. Because after all…

“It’s all because of Jesus I’m alive”

Steve Fee “All Because of Jesus”

    God Bless

    • June 2, 2009 4:40 am

In Hebrew, the word zamar means to sing praises. Using this word with an English word could give you an abstract, cool sounding name that has a ‘hidden’ message about what your band is all about.

I like the Alba Park connection… maybe bring some of that into your name.

      Alba Park Players (A.P.P)

      You get the idea.

I think you guys need to come up with the name because you know your personalities and will have to live with the name that you choose. You have lots of great ideas in this post to help you along the line. Looking forward to what you do with it.

    Just Sayin

  37. June 4, 2009 12:54 am

Just throwing some stuff out there:

    Geological & Geographic –
    The Missoula Floods
    Valley Rogue Theory
    USiski
    Alba Cannon
    The Applegate Trail

I’m guessing Roxy and the Peaks would be heavily misinterpreted, so probably not. ๐Ÿ™‚

A lot of bands are favouring names with The + One Word, for some reason. Usually an animal, it’s like the 60’s never happened *irony*. My favourite band name of the moment is ‘Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly.’ – awesomesauce!
