eight hundred

June 8, 2009

this is my 800th post.

ive been blogging for 23 months. thats, roughly, 700 days.

800 posts in 700 days.

wowzers, im a yapper!

i know much of what i write can seem pointless. but i do hope, and pray, that some posts have encouraged and challenged you as well. my thoughts are all over the board each day and it comes out in my writing. im a fly by the seat of my pants kinda girl. and you all are so gracious to sit back,Β  likely thinking “bless her heart”, while bearing with me.

ok. so i wanted to write a thematic post around 800. but everything i thought of seemed so overwhelming. like…

get a map out and locate a place 800 miles from where you live. where is it?

– seriously. who wants to do that.

each commenter list 10 ways they can actively inspire postive change in their community until we get to 800 ways.

– um. that would require 80 different people commenting. i dont have that many readers.

what do you think the world will be like in 800 years?

– i clearly have a headache and am not thinking right cuz that is straight up ridiculous.

you just found $800.00! what do you spend it on?

– TAM! snap out of it! you dont spend it – you turn it in! tard.

obviously, ive come up short. but if you all can think of sumpin. knock yourselves out.

i’ll be here πŸ˜‰

Ok, so I’m sitting here thinking of how I’m going to bring the Bible and 800 together????
First thought: What’s the 800th verse in the Bible and what does it mean to you? Well, did ya know we’d still be in Genesis, which has 1533 of the roughly 23,000 verses in the Bible? So, I start counting and got to about 60 before I figured out I wasn’t counting to 800….not even for you Tam.

So, I guessed and about half way through Genesis is 25:34 which talks about Jacob and Esau and really didn’t light a fire under me, ya know.

    I keep searching….

    Finally….the 800th verse in John’s gospel….John 19:19

19Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read:|sc JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS.

The cross was prepared for Him…..only Him…..His destiny…..that cross….destined to suffer and eventually die for those he does not yet know.

THAT gets me! Not a spur of the moment decision….His name written on that cross long before Pilate put it there. I wonder what that means to YOU (not you specifically, Tam, but YOU, in general).

Sorry for my pseudo-hijacking of this here comment system, but you got me thinking and that is always dangerous :-).

i really like the way you think, mister πŸ˜‰

  2. June 8, 2009 11:17 pm

despite being the kind of guy who loves numbers and thinks looking up a place 800 kilometres (miles are SO 18th century!!!) πŸ˜‰ away would be kinda cool – i’m on to it as soon as i leave ‘here’… πŸ˜‰

…i am forgoing the temptation to do my usual number ‘stuff’ and instead am focussing on something FAR more IMPORTANT about your post.

I believe you already understand my personal thoughts on the subject VERY well indeed, but remain all too humanly ‘fallible’ in this regard (i shall be magnanimous in the extreme and put it down to you being tired and reverting to ‘type’ because you don’t have the energy to keep Strong in Spirit at this time of writing your post).

Let me PROMISE you that if you ever dare refer to yourself with the word (re)Tard again i am going to personally make it my business to beat it out of you in a way that will ensure you never wish to slip up in a similar fashion until Kingdom come πŸ™‚

humbling ourself is a good thing – degrading ourselves, even in jest, just ‘ain’t Right’!

    yer Welcome πŸ˜‰

    800 posts?!
    oh my ridiculous.

    • June 9, 2009 10:59 am

i know. youd think i didnt have a life.

but i DO have lots of laundry.

      all. the. time.

  4. June 8, 2009 11:41 pm

I quite like the 800 kilometres thing too…since it’s easy and has finite number of options to choose from.

Unlike your other aborted options, which offer considerably less finite options.

However, being such a tech nerd as I know you are Tam, I’m shocked (like 😯 shocked) that you didn’t think to make the post about the Atari 800 computer.

    The shame…

    • June 9, 2009 11:00 am

get this. i almost DID talk about the atari 800.

      im not kidding, david!

when i was researching “800”, i cam across that and briefly considered it. but…im not a video game type of gal – so i didnt.

      i know. the shame.

      • June 9, 2009 6:23 pm

You could play games on them???

        • June 9, 2009 7:08 pm

oops. my bad. i was thinking just the plain ole atari video system.

but i imagine if one was bored enough they could make a game out of the 800 πŸ™‚

          • June 9, 2009 9:20 pm

It’s prorably not your bad at all – games were likely all they were really good for.

            And maybe monophonic music creation.

At least, that’s what I did with my Tandy TRS-80.

I also had a Tandy MC-10. I named him Marvin.

            I should stop now huh…

  5. June 8, 2009 11:42 pm

And, I know I mentioned on Twitter, but the banner is awesome. Go Russ!

    • June 9, 2009 4:38 am

Thanks! I had a good time throwing down on all the blog headers the last few weeks!

    • June 9, 2009 11:01 am

then i believe you are currently in the best location

  8. June 9, 2009 12:33 am

800 kms from me is a place i’ve been to called ‘Monkey Mia’ (my-a).

It is famous for being located in ‘Shark Bay’, Western Australia, a tropical paradise with both the oldest form of life on earth – Stromatolites’ a ‘coral like’ living collection of tiny organisms that look a little like stone mushrooms – and the most intelligent form of life on earth – Dolphins! πŸ™‚

The wild bottle-nosed dolphins come into the bay on a regular basis and freely interact with us humans who are strictly ‘controlled’ whenever the dolphins grace us with their presence.

Curiously, there are absolutely no Monkeys anywhere within 500 kms of Monkey Mia?? 😯 ( there is actually not a heck of a lot of anything within 500 kms of Moneky Mia – unless you like blue ocean, white sand and desert-like bush/scrub. and Stromatolites!) πŸ˜‰

  9. June 9, 2009 4:37 am

I could just post 800 of my longwinded by ever so accurate personal opinion comments…

  10. June 9, 2009 4:42 am

actually….even better: i could get to denver in only 798.

    • June 9, 2009 11:05 am

and seriously…those 2 miles saved could afford you a treat at the dairy queen!

  11. June 9, 2009 4:45 am

** and can i just say? i imported my blog in 2006. all together, i have about 300.

one of us should be embarrassed. 😯 but i don’t know which!

    • June 9, 2009 11:06 am

its me. i should be. really.

told ya i was a yapper.

  12. June 9, 2009 4:53 am

800 miles up I-75 gets me to Wapakoneta, Ohio.

800 miles west on I-10 gets me to Houston, Texas.

800 miles northwest I-75/I-24/I-57 gets me to St. Louis, Missouri.

800 miles northeast up I-95 gets me a little past Washington, D.C.

800 miles any direction south or east gets me wet.

    • June 9, 2009 7:02 am

I have a good friend who lives in Wapak… my dad pastored a church in Troy, Ohio which is just south of there on I-75.

    • June 9, 2009 9:54 am

      awww…..i’m from houston.
sometimes i really, really miss it. 😦

  13. June 9, 2009 5:02 am

I have 800 reasons why I don’t want to work today…does that count?

    1) I want to sit by the pool
    2) I want to have my lunch at the pool
    3) I want to swim in the pool
    4) It is hot and I need to be by the pool
    5) The pool needs me (yes it really does it gets lonely)

see a theme here…later in the list I will branch off into coffee shops and why I need to be there as well

  14. June 9, 2009 5:40 am

How about 800 cuss words that aren’t that bad…if your heart’s in the right place.

  15. June 9, 2009 5:43 am

    Sticking with the overwhelming theme:
    800 Miles
    North: Oslow, Norway
    South: Barcelona, Spain
    East: Lubland, Poland
West: Dublin, Ireland (that’s actually a bit north, but if I go directly west, I’m swimming in the Atlantic)

  16. June 9, 2009 5:55 am

800 *miles* due North puts me in the middle of the Quebec wilderness. Due West puts me in Aurora, Ill. South and East put me in the Atlantic. However, Southeast puts me right on top of Bermuda. Not too shabby.

North along the coast puts me just off the tip of Nova Scotia. South along the coast puts me just north of Brunswick, GA, and our good friends on St. Simon’s island.

    • June 9, 2009 11:07 am

id go to nova scotia. only because i like saying its name and would LOVE to hear locals say it too πŸ˜‰

  18. June 9, 2009 7:30 am

What if we came up with 800 blessings in our lives that we can be thankful for?

And we number them.. each poster adds to the list until we get to 800. Each person could as many as they want or as few as they want. There can even be repeats because me being thankful for my family would be different than you being thankful for your family.

    I am thankful today for:

    1. Friends in Christ
    2. Friends who I hope will one day know Christ
    3. God’s everlasting Word
    4. My family
    5. A job that blesses my family
    6. Music
    7. Sunsets
    8. Life’s Mysteries
    9. Surprises that make our hearts jump for joy
    10. Holding hands with my wife
    11. Holding hands with my daughters (completely different from number 10)
    12. Hearing my wife breathe while she sleeps
    13. The sound of a river tumbling over stones
    14. The smell of Honey Suckle
    15. The color of a perfectly ripe Red Delicious Apple
    16. Waking up on a Saturday morning knowing that I can roll over and sleep a few more minutes
    17. The odors of a book store
    18. Playing Wii Party 8 with my family
    19. Golf because it exhilarates and humbles me
    20. Riding in a boat at 40 miles an hour on water that is as still as glass

Ok.. so there are 20 things to jump start your thoughts.

    • June 9, 2009 7:38 am

I like the way you think Tony :-).

      1. The beating heart inside my wife’s belly.
      2. The beating hearts of the 2 she already birthed.
      3. Amazing friends here and back home.
      4. Awesome churches….here and home.
      5. Beating Super Mario Bros. for my son while he watches gripping my arm cuz he’s nervous.
      6. The ability to go back to school in my 30’s.
      7. The US Army…in more ways than one.

Call it the lucky 7…..well, blessings, not luck.
