I remember when my step brother taught me HOW to peg my jeans. vividly. there were definate do’s and don’t’s. but pretty much it was one big DON’T. 😉
I remember when Bananarama were the best selling girl-group of all time.
8)
Who????? 😆 But, no… seriously….
me too!!
they were?
😉
I remember being shocked that they’d sold more records world-wide than The Supremes…
😯
But now, I don’t think they’re even in the top 10 girl groups of all time any more.
Yes, I know this sort of rubbish…
I had Donny & Marie plastered all over my bedroom walls!
girl! my older brother and i used to watch that show every week. and when it was done, we’d go into my room and copy all the songs and dance moves using my bed as our stage.
we were incredible!
I remember thinking it was cool to wear parachute pants.
hahaha!!! me too!!
oh my nope!
brent had a pair of those.
😯
I remember rocking to ABBA daily….oh wait, that’s what I’m doing right now.
I remember when, after pegging my jeans, I’d put my Eastland boots on.
eastland boots?
Just for you, Tam, I put up a little video on my blog for your enjoyment1
http://justlori.wordpress.com/
I remember turning up the collar of my shirts…
When I drank Tang!
When Brady Bunch was in Primetime. Friday nights!
Tang!!
At boarding school, Tang was known as Jungle Juice. To this day, I’m not sure why…
i LOVED tang!!!
I remember when I rode standing in the seat of my dad’s old stepside truck while we bounced down the dirt roads of my grandpa’s farm.
this made me smile. and tear up a wee bit.
I remember when I didn’t have to ask questions like “What’s a pegged jean?”
oh thats a good one!!
My son asked my what pegged jeans were, he was amazed when i told him i used to do it all the time.
I remember when MTV Played music videos…
I remember when Pong was the cool video game to have….
Pong – love it! What about the Mattel electronic football game? or the Commodore 64? The TRS (trash)-80?
Dude!! I remember the Atari 6400…no, not the 2600. It was out for like a minute and a half, but was AWESOME for about 25 minutes :D.
I had a Trash-80, and it’s useless baby brother the MC-10. I called him Marvin………
i think we need to go on strike and demand that MTV return to playing music videos. and GOOD ones!
I remember rabbit ears, spinning the UHF dial to get the channel, 45’s, reel-to-reel, 8-tracks, B&W TV, waiting til 6:00 a.m. for the TV station to start broadcasting, Mutual of Ohama’s Wild Kingdom – “go wrestle that python, Jim!”, the Walt Disney hosting the Magic Kingdom, the day MLK was assassinated, the day RFK was assassinated, Ford coming out with a new car called a Mustang, the Partridge Family (forget Laurie…Mrs. Partridge was hot!), Speed Racer, Ultraman, 2001 (I didn’t get it then…still don’t get it), buying a burger, fries and a coke from McDonald’s and getting change back from your $1.00, watching some guy walk on the moon, Mark Spitz, “Good evening, I’m Chevy Chase and you’re not”, the Rocky Horror Picture Show, the Bicentennial, thinking I’d never live to see 2000 (I’ll never be 38 years old…), my first bicycle a Schwinn Stingray with a banana seat, sissy bar, coaster brakes, and high rise (easy rider style) handle bars, my brothers getting their draft notices, my first pair of Keds, getting my first leisure suit, bell bottom jeans, elephant bell bottoms, white leather belts, wire-rimmed glasses, my first camera – a Kodak Instamatic, getting film developed with pictures of 2 christmases, multiple birthdays, and thanksgiving – each one a picture of Dad carving some kind of meat at the dinner table or someone blowing out the candles on their cake, the day my cat’s kitten died, the day my grandfather died, my grandfather sending me to the corner store to get a bottle of milk with a $10-bill in hand (keep the change), going to the fair, (I don’t know how to stop this list…), the first time I held a girl’s hand, first kiss, first homecoming, first prom, hearing the Gospel, inviting Jesus into my heart, my first Bible, not having a computer, cell phone, Internet, waiting for hours for the operator to call when the long-distance, overseas call could go through to my brother, rotary phones, manual typewriters.
I don’t remember a time when I didn’t OCD on things…
mrs partridge was hot???
“my brothers getting their draft notices”
wow. what was that like for you?
I remember when I could go skinny dipping and not get arrested for it. Maybe it’s just too offensive now… 🙄
Ha Ha!!
I remember when I had a “tail” in my hair (this went really well with my pegged jeans)
won’t somebody tell me what are pegged jeans????
Jeans….wrapped tightly around the ankles….can’t explain HOW I did it or WHY, but did nonetheless.
ahhhh….that’s easy. Because Molly Ringwald did it.
and, pegged jeans are back in style. come to the high school i teach at – all the “cool kids” are doing it…
Check out my comment above…I posted a link to my blog, where I posted a video “how to peg jeans”
uh-uh. i am NOT gonna peg my jeans again.
nopenoway!
I remember when you actually had to have musical talent to be a recording artist.
You remember the 60s ????? 😉
I remember when I really thought I was Ferris Bueller…or at least as cool as Ferris Bueller…. man that dude rocked
love that movie. i think its one of brents top faves too!
…when Dark Shadows was a scary show (late 60s, early 70s).
I loved that show – and its companion “Strange Paradise.” I owned the “Barnabas Collins Dark Shadows Game” which came with glow-in-the-dark vampire teeth!
Now I gotta look it up on youtube…
I had the same game now that you mention it. Well, not precisely the same… I remember the glow-in-the-dark vampire teeth.
. . . when I’d clip playing cards in my bicycle spokes to transform my bike into a motorcycle.
I did that too!! Me and my purple Schwinn Stardust!!
i pegged my jeans, too and i rocked the purple, with pink laces, high top converse because they were on a Rick Springfield album.
rick springfield!!!
oh my word – he was so hot!!
you know what song i have in m head now???
I remember when I would keep a tape in my stereo and listen to radio 24/7 – when my favorite song came on – I would RUN to the stereo & hit record. My very own mix tapes. I kind of miss those. Dragging & dropping from i-tunes just isn’t the same. 🙂
Didn’t you just hate when the DJ would talk over your favourite song you’d been waiting all day to record to tape??
Or was that just me? 🙂
<B
That was me too…
I still have some of those tapes somewhere – but I don’t have anything to play them on – ha!
elora – i love that you remember that. i did the exact same thing too. that is a great memory. i loved the excitement of “my” song finally coming on.
remember calling into the radio stations to requests your favorite song? i always had a crush on the dj’s. i dunno why.
i remember when i was a little kid and we would play Duckhunt for hours on end….i can still hear the music. but when the Nintendo would mess up you would take the game out and blow all the dust out…back in the day.
is duckhunt a candian game?
Please tell me you’re not serious….I wasted many many hours of my life on that game.
😳
im serious. i have no idea what is. i know what duck-duck-goose is tho 😀
One of the first Nintendo games, with a plastic gun….kinda like skeet shootin….with ducks 🙂
ooohhhh. ok. i didnt play video games much. besides pac man and donkey kong. oh, and asteroids.
maybe i did play video games.
I remember…polyester that had plaid patterns and collars so long they could have come with landing gear attached.
hahaha!
I remember when people listen to the radio at night, not TV.
I remember when the political slogan was “I Like Ike”.
I remember when you went shopping you need rationing stamps for what you wanted to buy.
I remember when the only wireless telephone was Dick Tracy’s watch.
I remember when the scariest guy in the movies was Christopher Lee.
I remember when the first issue of Playboy came out.
I remember when I could remember everything.
ok. one of those memories had me rollin in laughter!
😯
😆
I used to curl my hair every single day. Usually with a curling iron, but sometimes with hot rollers.
It was high school. Apparently I had more energy back then. (I suppose this could serve as a comment to your post about aging, too…)
this is why i love me a good hat 😉
HOLY. COW. SNOT!!!
ive been out all day today, but have occasionally checked my e/m & i keep seeing your comments come thru…you all are cracking me up!!!
i remember when i didnt have a cell phone….i get anxious thinking about it.
or the big bricks for phones!
i remember i had a lot of fun, but really don’t remember much…might have something to do with the fun , i think i laughed at people who pegged their jeans, i was so bad…
then you definitely would have laughed at me. and i would have tripped you. then, we’d become fast friends!
I remember when I was your age – years ago! Warning Tam – it goes fast!
papa – i definitely feel it going fast. why do years feel more like weeks?
I remember when it was so satisfying to open a new album with a gate-fold cover, with art and lyrics on the sleeves.
awww, youre right! i want those days back…
I remember when… walking/riding your bike to school without adult backup was normal.
<B
i was just thinkin about this this morning. yah. times have certainly changed!
i remember when… the term ‘reality TV’ referred to a National Geographic documentary – not ‘Animal House’ or the XXX factor. 😉
<B
I grew up “tight-rolling” jeans. That’s what we called it in the south. So yesterday I had to google “pegged jeans” to realize we were all talking about the same thing.
Then, while I was only partially awake this morning, in that halfway place between asleep and awake, I started thinking about pegged jeans.
pegged jeans
pegged jean legs
pegged legs
peg legs
and realized why they’re called pegged jeans….
’cause they make you look like you have peg-legs – straight, narrowing/tapering legs.
right…?
um. yeah. right.
I remember playing outside all day on “adventures” and my folks not thinking anything of it except we were playing in the dirt. When it was dark, we rolled in for dinner. I remember Shawn Cassidy and Nancy Drew books at the Library, there wasn’t costco back then.
nancy drew – miscalculated risk = my favorite book when i was in the 4th grade.
ahhh, good times!
I remember this one time we made this stranger dance with Alece in the middle of a parking lot – then he made out with her…only then did he realize she was a blow up doll.
ok. this is the best memory of all!!!
yup. this wins 😉
and, kristi, wasnt that guy so brave? AND gullible?!!
bless his heart!
i have to confess that when you all say that you “pegged” your jeans…i have absolutely no idea what that means….at all.
…my tummy would sink IN when i lay on my back.
