Shake it down, shake it down, shake it dow-down!

June 19, 2008

Do you have a special ring tone on your phone? Some favorite song from your past? Maybe different rings for family members, spouse, friends?

I revealed my ring tone on our live chat last night. It is Brick House by The Commodores. Not that I think I am “My-Tay, My-Tay” or I am “Lettin it all hang out!” or that this “Lady’s stacked”. No. I just love that song. It makes this white girl feel like she’s got rhythm. It’s a feel good song!

What is your Ring Tone and why?

    Hi Tam!

    It’s so cuuuuuuuuuuutteeeee!

I’m embarrassed to say this but mine is just the regular verizon ring tone b/c we are too cheap to pay to download anything “more cool” 🙂

Is it an acceptable answer to say I don’t have a ring tone. Yup, don’t have one.

  5. June 19, 2008 4:36 am

I use the iPhone ringtone… Not because I have an iPhone, but because I like the look on the iPhone cool-aid drinker’s faces when my phone rings and I pull out an old Moto Razor, or my Blackberry Curve…. Priceless…. 😉 😀

Nice Curve you were rocking last night by the way Tam.

  6. June 19, 2008 4:45 am

    That’s great, Tam.

I recently dropped my phone in kool aid 😯 so I’m just using the ones that come standard in the phones. It is my ambition to one day put songs on the mini-SD card so I can be cool as well.

I used to have: Oh what a night, Inspector Gadget, Friends theme song and some other random ones!

  7. June 19, 2008 5:17 am

I have customized mine, so let’s see – I don’t talk to many people via phone:

-Greg gets Peter Gabriel’s “Come Talk To Me”

-my sister gets Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive”

-my mom gets “You Can’t Stop the Beat” from Hairspray

-anyone else gets a selection from the Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix soundtrack

I have some other ringtones saved, but no one else calls me!

  8. June 19, 2008 5:58 am

I don’t have a fun ring tone. But I know which one I want. It goes a lil somethin’ like this:

Baby, where’d you get your body from, baby where’d you get your body from….I got it from my mama. I got it from my mama.

    Think that’ll work?

  9. June 19, 2008 6:19 am

I have Mercy Me’s “I Can Only Imagine”…It reminds me of my dad.

  10. June 19, 2008 6:38 am

okay, you all will think I am a dork, but I don’t have a phone. Actually my husband and I share one of those old put the minutes in as you go phones and he takes it to work on most days and then I take it to work on my three nights.

    So, it’s on vibrate.

BUT! There was a time when it was only mine and back in the day I had a couple of ring tones on it. First the song from Looney Toons and more recently The Pink Panther.

I’m not very hip, I guess.

  11. June 19, 2008 7:13 am

Hey, I don’t have a cell phone *GASP* shocking I know. But on my mom’s phone she has that song that someone was “singing” last night on chat. That is what comes up on her phone when I call her. HA!!

“Brandy, she’s a fine girl, what a good wife she will be”

    heehee 😆

  12. June 19, 2008 8:11 am

Mine is Crazy Train by Ozzy.
Why? Because I work with students!

  13. June 19, 2008 8:25 am

My general ringtone is the theme from Knight Rider.

When my wife calls it’s the 80s song “Heaven Is A Place On Earth” by Belinda Carlisle.

I have several frustrating clients that I gave the ringtone “Help” by the Beatles (Help! I need somebody. Help! Not just anybody. Help, you know I need someone…)

  14. June 19, 2008 8:41 am

    Def Leopard – Rocket

    Just feels good

  15. June 19, 2008 8:45 am

the veggie rocks version of “the pirates who don’t do anything” and the first few times it rang, I forgot to answer and just sang along… 😳

  16. June 19, 2008 8:48 am

HW– I can so see that happening…. Kids songs become second nature….

  17. June 19, 2008 8:49 am

    Giggling @ HW. 😆

  18. June 19, 2008 8:52 am

that’s funny heidi! i would do the same thing for sure!

todd – ha! because you work with students. that’s classic! 😉

i haven’t heard of a lot of these songs so far. i need to venture out from under my rock i guess 😕

  19. June 19, 2008 9:00 am

I’m boring ringtone guy. I have a stock ring that sounds like a phone. Weird!

Anyway, a side-note since you mentioned The Commodores:

#1) They were my first-ever concert to see in 9th grade. I can not dance either – except for dumb-dancing.

#2) My best friend from HS and college has played drums for them for the last 20 years or so. If you have seen them in that time, you saw Scott playing with them. Don’t think he can dance either, but he’s a really good drummer.

  20. June 19, 2008 9:04 am

My is annoyingly loud – but that is the only way I can hear it over the noise…you could call me old school, I guess….

by the way, have you ever noticed some people try to be hip with an old school ringer (like the rotary phones) but in all actuality, the old school ringer, by default, is new school if digitized….

Yeah, that’s right, drink that one in….

(sorry if anyone here has an old school ringer in an attempt to be cool…)

  21. June 19, 2008 9:11 am

My main theme has been the music to the Geico commercials.

When you call, its…”Let’s Get it On” 🙂

  22. June 19, 2008 9:39 am

I’ve spent so many years in clubs and bars that I generally cant hear ringtones that are set as songs. I’ve tried it a few times, and it is a perfect recipie for making everyone angry by never answering my phone.

Instead, I have the iPhone alarm set as my ringtone. So anytime my phone rings it sounds like we are in the middle of a nuclear containment center, and radiation just leaked out.

For some reason, I can hear that… and the looks on everyone’s faces around me are priceless!

  23. June 19, 2008 9:42 am

do you remember my post about going to the Red Sox game and i asked what all of our at-bat songs would be? and i said mine would be Brick House?

are you tryin’ to be like me again?????

  24. June 19, 2008 9:49 am

i still can’t believe you answer that 🙂

    What’s a cell phone?

  30. June 19, 2008 12:18 pm

I don’t own a cell phone. If I did there could ony be one song as my ring tone – “Born To Be Wild” by Steppenwolf!

Since I spent my entire working career as a bank auditor I may have been “Born To Be Mild” but a guy can have his fantasies. 🙂

Michelle asks, “What’s a cell phone?”

Umm…Maybe a phone for your cells…? But…which cells…? And does the nucleus order the mitochondria to push the buttons to make the call or does the membrane have to actually do it…? And would this be easier if we had cell walls, like trees? Trees have feelings, too, you know. They’re kind of like bagels, except totally different. But everybody knows bagels have feelings, too. So do they have cell phones for bagels? If so, then who would call a bagel? Well, okay. We call a bagel a bagel. But, as you can see, I’m cooperating here. And there’s…We’re doing all we can! By the way, where is the deoxyribonucleic acid in all of this, huh? And how come the chromosomes don’t have any rights? You ever think about THAT?!?! Plus, if your bones produce 2.5 million red blood cells every second, where do all the old ones go? And in case you hadn’t noticed, I’ve got The Misfits tonight so I’m just practicing. No worries, folks. 🙄

Cathi!! Baby Got Back is my all time favorite. 😳 Should I even admit that here??? I know every.single.word. 😯

  42. June 19, 2008 8:41 pm

    Brandy:)
I will help you sing it:) Don’t offend me…I mean I wouldn’t sing the ” Baby Got Back” at church or anything, but it doesn’t bother me:)
    Its all good sista!

  43. June 19, 2008 8:42 pm

  45. June 19, 2008 9:44 pm

Cathi and Ang, we need to do our own rendition of Baby Got Back! 😆 hahaha!!

Hey TAM, why no *song* on your blog? Only B’s? 😀 hehehe

  46. June 19, 2008 10:37 pm

I have different rings for the most important people…

My dad gets “Eye of the Tiger”, from Rocky. 😀
My mother’s is “Barbara Anne”, part of her name…
Home phone is “Sweet Home Alabama”
Katie is some country song she likes (I forget, ahh!)
Lauren’s is a recorded message of her saying, “Carmen… pick up the phone now! You know you wanna talk to me!!!” hehehe 😉
My Salvadoran friends are “Como Me Duele”
My Mexican friends are “Latin Loops”

There are more, but I can’t remember them all. I’ve purchased way too many, but most of them on accident. *sigh*

  47. June 19, 2008 10:59 pm

I used to have “Back in Black” by AC/DC as my ringtone, but I’d recently changed it to “Salute the Solution” by the Raconteurs.

I played a trick on a co-worker/friend of mine the other day. He inadvertently left his cellular phone on his desk and it kept ringing while he was gone, bugging the heck out of me. So, what’d I do? I went up to it, purchased him a new ring tone, and set it as his default. You wanna know what it was? “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper. The first time it rang, everyone in the office guffawed. Luckily, he too thought the joke was well played. Sadly, he demanded that I pay him $2.49 for the ringtone, which I did.

    Sigh.

  48. June 20, 2008 12:05 am

jon – did you just say “cellular”? 😉

im loving all your ring tones. it’s giving me even more of a glimpse into your minds….yes, i have an evil plan 👿

  49. June 20, 2008 9:03 pm

Hi…first time commenting here but Jenni Catron sent me over, so here I am!

I have “Good Morning Baltimore” left over from my infatuation with Hairspray. Oh…and hubby gets “Let me go Home” by Michael Buble.

    Loving hanging out here!

  50. June 21, 2008 9:16 am

For the husband, it’s the theme from Magnum P.I – there’s nothing more manly than that! For my family of origin (the Cash family), it’s Johnny Cash’s “Walk the Line”. Everyone else gets the iPhone ring.

  51. July 2, 2008 7:21 am

    my friend natalie singing —

    i’m a cucumber
    i’m a cucumber
    i’m a cucumber
