Alright! Who lost God again?

December 7, 2007

“I found God!”

Was He lost?

I know. Every once in a awhile I get real picky over little statements like this. But it’s because I have been called out a lot and challenged a great deal, since I started blogging, about my choice of words. So I’m just ultra sensitive to it I guess. I realize it’s innocent and most things like this is just a general statement everyone makes. But this is God here! Can we be a little bit more precise?

So is there a different way we can announce our conversion? Maybe…”Look Who I ran into today!” I don’t know.

What are some statements or phrases that you have just never “got”?

How about “I finally noticed God in my life” instead? That’s a toughy.

    I HATE “I’m sorry”
I like apologies when they are needed, but just “I’m sorry” with nothing else added to that or without a change in something, I hate hearing it. It’s almost insulting.

I have never understood causual, passing remarks like “hey how are you?” and the keep walking…not really interested in how someone is doing.

The other one that always gets me going..is one believer to another, “praying for God’s blessing on you and your family”..Aren’t I already blessed? Ephesians 1 says that I am blessed with every blessing in spiritual realms…I think that is pretty good, I will take it! 🙂 Tell the truth is my mind twisted?

There is a sign on some church near me that says “If God seems far away, guess who moved?” love it!

  4. December 8, 2007 8:54 am

I think being a parent you should have lots of these LOL Like “Do you want a spanking?”

I think my favorite recently is when we were at the recruiters office whith Mike and he was asking some questions about his knee surgury. Mike responded “I haven’t had knee surgery on any other part of my body”

    HUH?

What about “It’s a God thing” well, isn’t it ALL a God thing? 🙂
(sort of like the blessings things)

During prayer… the phrase, “Be with ______”.

    My current pet peeve.

  8. December 8, 2007 8:10 pm

Mud, I wrote a post on that phrase. How can an Omni-Present God NOT be with someone. Instead, I wrote, pray that a person would be aware of His presence. I’m with you 100% on that!

Kristina, To me, saying it’s a God thing, seems to lessen the greatness of Him Sounds so frivolous.

Deb, Duh? Yes, I’d love a spanking mom! And when dad gets home can i get one from him too? Please! 😉

Good call Darla! Yes, we are blessed…most are just not receiving and accepting or seeing the blessing!

Bran, I think I’ve heard you say that before. Would an “I’m sorry because……….” be better? You’re funny!

  9. December 8, 2007 8:46 pm

It is always funny to me when people say “bless their heart” because we (Daniel and I) think it is the Christian way of saying “what an idiot!”

-he got audited by the irs…bless his heart
-she fell and broke her nose…bless her heart
-they missed their plane and were stuck in Alaska for 3 days…bless their hearts.

So you know, because we are mean…we make fun of those people whenever we hear somebody saying that.

  10. December 8, 2007 9:07 pm

Isn’t that what those “big haired” (bless their hearts) Texans say all the time. 😉

Because you’re mean…Funny! Miss Thang, you are anything but!

  11. December 8, 2007 9:11 pm

“God’s really moving” …as if He had stopped.

“Can I go with?” …with what exactly?

“lol” …I am guilty of using this, but who would actually say to someone, “laugh out loud”? i understand it is internet slang but most other internet slang make sense like, “brb” meaning “be right back” or “ttyl” meaning “talk to you later”. those all make sense. you’d never be with someone or even on the phone and say, “laugh out loud” when they said something funny.

    lol. 😉

  12. December 9, 2007 5:38 am

how about “God is really working in that”..isn’t HE really working in everything!

  13. December 9, 2007 5:01 pm

One, I never got is “She drank from the Koolaid”! I still have no idea, what that person was trying to say!
MY BIGGEST pet peeve, is when someone tells you ” I’m Praying for you” (when you can tell that they don’t even know your name!) Are you really? Or are you just saying it, to look good?

  14. December 9, 2007 5:57 pm

One i never got was – “I’m gonna blast them moles out of existance!”

Who put them there in the first place? Satan?? i don’t think so! 🙂

    You’re still Number 7 Tam 🙂

    love

    I am guilty of Crystal’s complaint…

    “can I go with?”
    “want to go with?”
    “did you go with?”

    You get the idea…
My best friend in Wisconsin uses that slang all the time and it rubbed off. Jake HATES it when I use it…. he says “WITH WHO?!” heehee 😉

In Western Pennsylvania when they say that they are going to clean their room, they say, “I’m gonna get my room red up.” I think it’s short for “ready” but I don’t know.

They also eliminate the verb “to be” from most sentences. A joke I heard from a friend of mine at Carnegie Mellon U. theater dept was that if Hamlet had lived in Pittsburgh he would have said, “…..or not…..”

  18. December 10, 2007 8:08 am

Funny! I say “or not” all the time…usually when I’m not getting a response from someone, “Ooorrr Not!”

  19. December 10, 2007 10:35 pm

LOL I am with you…Rod used to say when he made his change LOL

  20. December 11, 2007 11:07 pm

Does anyone else feel pressure to come up with a clever sign off to a letter if you are a Christian? Why do I have to say “In Christ” or “In His Grip” instead of Sincerely yours, or Love,? I don’t understand.

    how about:

  22. December 12, 2007 11:12 am

    HAHAHAHAHA!!!

  23. December 12, 2007 11:14 am

Yes Joni…I have buckled under that pressure before thinking “What can I come up with that’s new and clever?” It’s like we wanta leave a reminder that we are “godly”…makes me laugh.

    In this journey together,

‘love’ works for me – why mess with a classic?? 🙂

  25. December 12, 2007 9:57 pm

    So do you sign off…

    Love,
    Love

God isn’t really “lost.” See, life is like a global “Where’s Waldo?” picture. Once you find him, you turn to the next page and find him in that setting too…

    Aye carumba.

I thought man was the lost one anyway?

  27. December 14, 2007 2:59 pm

Steve, exactly! It seems you and I agree then. That is what my post spoke to. He isn’t lost we are.

    Thanks for stopping by 🙂

anytime a guy calls another guy “chief”. saying something like “Hey Chief!”

just doesnt work for me. im not a native american. never have been a chief, don’t want to be a chief, so don’t call me chief.

  29. April 23, 2008 10:56 pm

Okay. I’m a newcomer this time.

    A few phrases I never “got” —

    “My walk with God…”
(If ever I have been fortunate enough to actually WALK with God, I would probably resemble an amatuer skier tumbling down an Olympic mountain.)

    “My relationship with the Lord…”
(Just never made much sense to me.)

    “God told me…”
    (Always scared me.)

“Hate the sin. Love the sinner.”
(Does this REALLY need an explanation as to why it is so confusing?)

“The Pope may be French, but Jesus Christ is English.”
(Think this one speaks for itself.)

“You’re not a good Christian if you don’t vote for…”
    (CRINGE…!!!)

“But by the same token, the other side of the coin is that…” (Guess I was never obsessed with currency!)

    “Slower ‘an molasses in January…”
(My Dad always said that about me when I was supposed to be eating my vegetables.)

    “Hotter ‘an a two-dollar pistol…”
(He said that a lot, too. Maybe it was just always cold where he grew up…?)

“Once the kids’re born, you just name ’em.”
    (My personal favorite, said TheNorEaster!)

I could go on, but you get the idea… 😉

  31. April 24, 2008 6:45 pm

Thanks for a place to vent!

I’m annoyed currently by, “in your holy and precious name” as the rubber stamp close to public prayers. Maybe ‘cuz I’m a dude and would rather see Jesus as a super-cool-ninja guy. Precious is a word my grandmother doesn’t even use any more.

  32. April 25, 2008 8:14 am

The “God is My Copilot” bumper sticker hurt my brain when it was common.

You show me a guy who has God as a copilot, I’ll show you a guy who’s going the wrong way.

My apologies for the annoying vehicle/life parallel.
