supporting a friend

you all know russ hutto, right? hes a friend of mine, from blogging, that i have grown to respect and admire a whole great big-o-deal. and…hes a personal friend of mandy thompson. this automatically qualifies russ as good people. if not slightly shady. russ is also the winner of our fort building contest!

well, russ, his wife and two of their friends are going to Honduras this summer for missions/ministry.

“We’ll be going in July to work closely with a local church and their leadership teams to do mission/ministry work in Tegucigalpa and Concordia, Honduras (including VBS style children’s ministry with the church in Concordia that reached many beautiful children.)” – Russ

and as you know – in order to take a big missions trip like this there needs to be fund raising. the typical fund raising takes place via letter sent out to lots of people. which is great and effective. but russ and lydia, russ’s wife, are doing things a bit different. certainly not unheard of, just not done as much anymore.

“We have been yardsale-ing, cookie baking, jewelery making, original photo print taking, and music making for a few months now in an attempt to raise funds without just asking people in a simple letter. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. But we wanted to raise funds with our skill sets. And ALL proceeds are going directly to the trip.” – Russ

i love this! its not just about giving them money. they want to give us something in return. i think thats pretty darn cool.

alright. so russ is uber talented. he and mandy recorded a song together a couple weeks ago by sending tracks back and forth to each other til they got the finished product. its fun, creative and just simply impressive. take a listen.
